Kudos to American Airlines for some great customer service. I screwed up today and booked a flight for 9:30PM instead of 9:30AM. With a quick call and a little fear in my voice, the call center representative changed my ticket without gouging me on a change fee. I’m sure it helped that the fares were exactly the same, but American still deserves some credit for efficient, helpful customer service! Thanks!

American Airlines Can Burn to the Ground!!! The flight home was an absolute train wreck! It was delayed by 2 hours so we sat in the airport, which was ok, my baby did good. The plane had a mechanical problem and they eventually switched us to a different plane, which is fine. Given the delay, all of the passengers were already in a bad mood and my baby screamed and cried most of the way home because the crew would not let me let her out of her seatbelt and they confined her to sitting still for 2 hours. You cannot make a baby sit still for 2 hours – It was horrible. They STOOD over the top of me to make sure I did not unbuckle her. Then, when they made their announcements on the plane, they were laughing the whole time and saying ? You must keep your baby buckled, You must keep your carry on under your seat, You must keep your child in a seat belt and in case of a water landing, we may give your baby a life vest! I was the only one with a baby on the plane, so their very rude announcements were solely directed to me. They were beyond rude and understanding about having a baby on a plane. They had no food on the flight to purchase, as I forgot to pack any. Then I was taking pictures of her and the plane and they came back to me and made me erase them off my camera. After 9-11, you are not allowed to take pictures of the crew or plane, which was understandable! The people around me were breathing heavy, constantly staring at me and complaining about the baby not being controlled. I was in tears after an hour. I asked if I could let her stand on the ground so she would stop crying and the lady said “I don’t care if she screams and cries the whole way, she cannot get out of her seat! I was a prisoner for 2 hours. I will never fly American again and as much as I tried to color with her and do things, she just is not able to sit still for 2 hours. No one tried to help, only complain and make it more uncomfortable and stressful for me. Then after we finally landed, I was waiting for the stroller and some bitch says, Oh, that?s the baby that screamed the entire flight. I never had this problem with Southwest ever! I will never fly American Again and I will blog, press release about it til some newswire picks up this story and condemns them for their rude and cruel behavior to a BABY and her mother

If you were treated that way you should write a letter to the President of the company. Taking time to follow up and express your complaints is definitely worth it. I haven’t had an experience like that on AA but have had bad experiences on SW, Delta, etc.
As for photographs… the only place you’re not permitted to photograph is at the security checkpoint. I’ve never had anyone tell me to erase my pics and I’ve seen plenty of other people take pictures on the plane.
That being said, the way you were treated is horrible. I hope you’re able to get satisfaction with this matter. Just be firm and consistent and keep going up the ladder as necessary.

Hmph, I left a comment earlier. Essentially keep writing to them until they make you happy. Also, I’d be interested to hear what the outcome is. I recently read an article in the Sunday New York Times that recalled the day when flying was glamorous. Boy, we’ve moved far from that haven’t we?
Also, as a new father myself, I’m not taking the kid on a plane any time soon. Though I have new found sympathy for those who do.
